House Introduces the Infrastructure Jobs and Energy Independence Act
Washington, D.C. – On May 12, 2011, the American Gas Association (AGA) commended Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), Bill Shuster (R-PA), Jim Costa (D-CA) and Tim Walz (D-MN) for their work on developing smart, bipartisan energy legislation in 112th Congress. The Infrastructure Jobs and Energy Independence Act will help enhance America’s energy independence through energy efficiency, conservation and innovation.
“We commend these members of Congress on their leadership in crafting legislation that will work to increase both our country’s energy and national security,” said Dave McCurdy, president and CEO of AGA. “Energy security is a term we all use, but how to get there is something that has been debated for too long—there is no more time to waste. I am pleased to see these congressional leaders take action today with common sense legislation that would help move our country in the right direction, and I urge the full House to follow suit.”
The bill includes provisions focused on offshore leasing, conservation, energy research and development and the diversification and efficiency of the U.S. transportation and electric system.
McCurdy added, “We are particularly pleased to see the focus on diversification of transportation in this bill. AGA recently launched a collaborative effort with America’s Natural Gas Alliance to enhance our national energy security by promoting the development of natural gas vehicles and infrastructure throughout North America. Clean, domestic, abundant natural gas has great potential in the transportation sector, and I am glad to see the House not only recognize this great potential, but act on it as well.”
